A short history of how Great Plains Protein LLC evolved.
1998 - 2000
The owners of Bagley Protein, LC researched and developed
a new extrusion process for processing spent hens into a medium
protein meal.
Bagley Protein, LC built a prototype 10,000 bird per
day processing facility and began processing spent hens on a trial
basis.
2001
Great Plains Protein, LLC was established by a group
of investors and purchased assets of the former Bagley Protein,
LC
The plant was refined and modernized.
Developed a complete recycle process and provide a
welfare friendly process for spent hen disposal.
Conducted product testing, university feeding trials
and began a marketing effort for the extruded poultry meal.
2002 - 2003
Finalized construction, made plant modifications and
began processing 25,000-30,000 birds/shift.
Obtained proper approvals for marketing Great Plains
Meal in Iowa and Minnesota.
Established a market for Great Plains Meal in both
layer and turkey rations as well as blended protein feed stuffs.
Recently modified equipment to increase plant capacity
to process 50,000 birds/day with a double shift.
