| Great Plains Meal is marketed as a feed ingredient
for further manufacture in livestock and pet feed.
Background:
Great Plains Protein LLC (GPP) has made a continuing effort to support
the poultry industry with a positive, welfare friendly method of
utilizing the ever-expanding supply of spent hens. GPP has likewise
proven the Great Plains Meal is a viable, safe, feed ingredient,
having economic value as a poultry, livestock and pet feed ingredient.
Manufacturing process:
The manufacturing process begins with fresh whole chicken carcasses
(no parts, only whole birds) that are homogenized and blended with
a carrier and subjected to an extrusion process. Once extruded the
product is dried and ground for final storage and delivery.
Bio-security:
The manufacturing process at Great Plains Protein LLC follows a
secure biological control system. Fresh ingredients, (incoming birds)
are unloaded and begin processing in a distinctly and separate section
of the plant while the finished product is pumped via an enclosed
tube from the extruder to the dryer located in a separate structure.
In the adjoining facility the product is dried, ground and moved
in an enclosed leg to enclosed storage tanks made ready for shipment.
There is no opportunity for cross over contamination in the system.
Regular Salmonella and bacteria test monitoring is utilized.
Finished product:
Feeding trials have shown a highly digestible, value added protein
feed ingredient product, free of pathogens. A key effect of the
hydrolyzed process is evident in the amino acid analysis. Tests
prove the pepsin digestibility of the finished product exceeds 90%.
